Minding you Mental Health

As Mayo GAA faces great uncertainty and challenges within communities, we must look at ways we can support each other when it comes to Health and Wellbeing. 

While the normal operation of our GAA members has been significantly disrupted as a result of the virus, we must remain conscious of the impacts on our wider community in general and be cognisant of the pressures on other public services such as the HSE and support all our Health Care workers in the coming weeks. That’s why its so vital we adhere to all protocols now in place for our clubs.

Responding to Coronavirus can take its emotional toll on all our Mental Health but it’s important to note the many things we can all do to mind our mental health during these times. 

Limit Social Media
It’s important we set limits for news and social media and to only link in with trustworthy and reliable sources. Try to avoid rumors and misinformation. Asking yourself “is this evidence-based information” will help you determinate fact from fiction. 

Talking to Children and Young People
Giving children and young people the time and space to discuss their feelings (“feelings” important as we can’t deny how someone feels). Ensure and information we share are age appreciate and without causing alarm. And reassurance is key to positive outcomes.
Healthy Activities and Routines
The importance of exercise in reducing anxiety levels is well founded. So, it’s important that part of our day we incorporate exercise for you and your family. We are lucky to have some of the best trails and landscapes in Ireland so make it part of your daily routine. Social distancing and sensible approaches always. 

Stay Connected
During stressful times its important that we focus on our protective factors such as family and friends. Try to keep in the lines of communication open and to link in to let them know how your doing. This will reduce anxiety levels. A problem shared is problem halved. 

Mayo GAA priority will always be the health and wellbeing of our members. We must therefore act on the HSE www.hse2.ie  and Government advice in relation to the virus and plan and act accordingly as we receive information. Remember: Stay Safe, Stay Strong, Stay Connected, Stay Positive. Please circulate among your club and its members.
