Mayo through to NFL Semi Finals
Mayo 1-8 Tyrone 0-11
Mayo finish top of Division 1A by virtue of their 1-8 to 0-11 draw against Tyrone at Castlebar on Sunday.
This was a see-saw battle that could have gone to the Ulstermen or the hosts, but Tyrones failure to win ensured that they finished out of the top two.
The visitors opened the scoring after only two minutes through Ryan Mellon, before Mayo rushed into a 1-4 to 0-2 lead. Austin OMalley and Kevin ONeill scored a brace of points each, while Peadar Gardiners goal left the Red Hand with plenty to do.
However, all of the next five scores would go the way of Tyrone, leaving it level at the break, with points from Brian Dooher, Sean Kavanagh, Martin Penrose and two Stephen ONeill frees clawing the deficit back.
Pascal McConnell also played a key role in their revival: he brilliantly saved Andy Morans penalty just before the break.
Mayo again started well in the second period but their shooting was poor and they fell three points behind, with a pair of ONeill frees and Kevin Hughes white flag making it 0-10 to 1-4.
However, Mayo got the next four points, with OMalley, Ger Brady and Alan Dillon on the mark - before Conor Gormleys late point levelled matters.
Tyrone couldnt grab the lead again, though, so they miss out on the Division 1 semi-finals.
