National Hurling Director visits Mayo

  • Oct 03,2006
Paudi Butler - the newly appointed National Hurling Director - was in Mayo recently passing on his vast knowledge of the ancient game, as he gave a Hurling Coaching Workshop in the East Mayo Hurling strongholds of Ballyhaunis and Tooreen.

A group of over forty full-time, part-time and club hurling coaches from around Connacht were present as the Tipperary native delivered the theoretic element of his Workshop in the Connacht Council Offices in Ballyhaunis before traveling out to the newly opened Tooreen Hurling Grounds for the practical part of the course. The Workshop, which was organised by Damien Coleman (Connacht Hurling Director) proved very successful for all coaches present, as the latest forms of underage hurling coaching techniques were demonstrated.

Paudi Butler was appointed as Full Time National Hurling Director by Croke Park in April of 2006 and took up his position in September of this year. A National School teacher with over thirty-five years experience in Drum-Inch NS in South Tipperary , Paidi has been developing young hurlers for years and has also managed the Tipperary Minors and Laois Seniors in recent times. Paidi is also a Level 2 Hurling Coaching Tutor and has sat on many coaching committees in Croke Park down through the years.

It is hoped that his knowledge and coaching techniques will help our coaching personnel in Connacht, and especially in Mayo to deliver better coaching sessions - raising the standard of our young players in the process. Allready plans are underway for a second Workshop by Paidi specifically for the Hurling coaches in Mayo.
