Hurling: Leinster Kehoe Cup Round 2

  • Jan 29,2007
Meath                0-22
Mayo                 0-10

The Mayo Senior Hurlers were on the wrong end of a twelve point defeat on Sunday last against a more sharper Meath outfit in Navan. Mayo were never allowed get into their stride and were 0-5 to no score down after just 16 minutes of the game, with Meath ace attacker Mick Cole recording four of these points. Mayo drew themselves back into the game with first half scores from Adrian Freeman (2), Stepen Broderick (3f), Martin Devaney and Stephen Hunt. Meath went in at the break 0-9 to 0-7 in front, but could have been a lot more in front but for Mayo goalkeeper Tom Duffy who pulled off two point blank saves.

The second half saw Meath compound their superior strength over Mayo with some excellently taken scores, especially from Stephen Clynch and Ger ONeill to put the game beyond doubt, while the sending off of Mayo corner -back Derek Walsh for decent weakened the Westerners even more. Mayo did get a few late consolation points from Stephen Broderick and substitute Stephen Leneghan but Meath march on to play Kildare in the Kehoe Cup semi final.
