Mayo Players on Irish Hurling/Shinty Panels

  • Oct 11,2007
Next weekend sees the annual Hurling/Shinty Internationals take place in Aird Park, Fortwilliam, Scotland as Ireland travel to take on Scotland. Allthough there are no Mayo players on the Mens Senior panel, Adrian Freeman (Tooreen) has been named for the second year in succession on the U21 panel. This U21 game takes place in Fortwilliam on Sunday 14th October at 2.30 and will be preceeded by the Womens International at 1pm. The womens team this year is picked from the counties which compete for the All-Ireland Junior Championship, which sees four Mayo players getting a call up for International duty. They are Meave Murphy, Yvonne Byrne, Sinead Muldoon and Maria Coyne. All four Mayo girls play with the Na Brideoga Club in East Mayo and will be joined on the team by players from Monaghan, Carlow, Louth, Westmeath and Donegal.

The mens Senior International will be played on Saturday 13th October at 2.30 at the same venue - all the Irish squad made up of players from the Ring/Rackard Cup counties with three exceptions. Galway sideline cut supremo Joe Canning also joins up with the squad as will All-Ireland Kilkenny hurler Martin Comerford. The third inclusion from the McCarthy Cup counties is James Skehill from Galway who will take his place between the Irish uprights.
