The event run by Mayo GAA Scór committee was a massive success last year with over 200 pupils from right around the county performing at the different stages. National school children from every corner of Mayo took to the stage and it really was a great showcase for all that is good in traditional Irish culture.
Scór na bPáistí is a cultural event in which national school children perform in solo singing, figure dancing, set dancing, musical group, recitation, novelty acts and ballad groups. The four divisional finals take place this coming week on April 10th and 11th with the county final taking place later in April. Schools and pupils still have time to enter once they contact their divisional co-ordinator.
The event is all about encouraging children and schools to promote their native culture and in the process build their talents and confidence on the stage. Some of Mayo’s most highly regarded musicians and singers on the national stage at present fine-tuned their talents in the Scór competitions and again this year the Mayo GAA cultural committee is confident their will unearth new talent for the future.
Any pupils or school eager to enter the competitions can contact their divisional Scór co-ordinator and register to compete on the night. The co-ordinator for the North is Ian McAndrew from the Belmullet GAA club, Grainne Kelly from Knock is the co-ordinator in the East, Caroline O
