Mayo U20 hurlers play Sligo in challenge game

Brian Finn’s U20 hurling side played an early season challenge match against Sligo in Castlebar yesterday. In a competitive match, played in almost ideal conditions the home team made a very good start in the first quarter but the Yeat’s County dominated the last 10 minutes of the half, to leave only a couple of points in it at halftime.
Sligo brought their strong performance into the second half and dominated the home side for most of the 3rd quarter.  Mayo roused themselves for the final quarter, and with some excellent team play, made sure of the win for the home side.
This was a good early season workout for both teams who will both compete in the U20B (Richie McElligott Cup) later the year.
Credit to Referee Eadhmonn MacSuibhne who allowed the game to flow, making it a good game for all in attendance.  Thanks also to Phillip Henaghan and the MacHale Park ground staff who had the pitch in excellent condition.
