Seven Mayo Players Named on Connacht Squad for Allianz GAA Football Inter-Provincial Series

Squads announced for Allianz GAA Football Inter-Provincial Series

The four squads have been announced for this weekend’s Allianz GAA Football Inter-Provincial Series at Croke Park.
The Leinster squad is led by Dublin’s nine-time All-Ireland winning history makers James McCarthy and Stephen Cluxton with 11 counties represented for the boys in green.
Armagh’s All-Ireland winners have a strong presence in the Ulster ranks and are led by Paddy Burns, Oisín Conaty, Aidan Forker, and Rian and Oisín O’Neill.
Connacht’s squad includes players from London and New York and is led by Mayo’s Aidan O’Shea and Galway’s Cillian McDaid.
Kerry’s experienced duo Tadhg Morley and Diarmuid O’Connor headline the Munster squad.
Friday night will see Connacht face Leinster at 6pm followed by the meeting of Ulster and Munster at 8pm. On Saturday the opening match sees the two beaten teams from Friday night meeting at 5.30pm followed by the clash of the two Friday night winners at 7.30pm.
The backdrop to the event is the trialing of the seven core enhancements put forward by the Football Review Committee and the subject of a special congress at the end of November.
Tickets are available from GAA.ie. Friday night’s games will be shown live on TG4 and Saturday’s games will be shown live on RTÉ.

Fixture details for Allianz GAA Football Inter-Provincial Series

The GAA can confirm arrangements for the Allianz GAA Football Inter-Provincial Series which will showcase the proposed new rule changes for Gaelic football as devised by the Football Review Committee, chaired by Jim Gavin, at Croke Park the weekend after next.

On Friday October 18 Leinster play Connacht in the first semi-final at 6.0 which is followed by the meeting of Munster and Ulster at 8.0.

The following day will see two more games take place as the two defeated provinces meet at 5.30 and the winning teams compete against each other at 7.30.

Tickets for the games are on sale from usual outlets priced at €15 for adults and €5 for children and provide entry to all four games over the two days. All tickets must be purchased in advance from either gaa.ie or Centra and SuperValu outlets.

The managers for the games have also been confirmed.

Connacht will be coached by Pádraic Joyce and Dessie Dolan will look after the Leinster team. John Cleary manages the Munster selection and Kieran Donnelly takes charge of the Ulster team.

All four games will be televised with the two games on the Friday covered by TG4 and the two Saturday fixtures broadcast by RTÉ.

Long term GAA partners Allianz have been confirmed as series sponsors.

Speaking about the announcement of the series, Allianz Chief Customer Officer Geoff Sparling said: “At Allianz we are delighted to be supporting the GAA as it showcases the proposed new rule changes for Gaelic football as devised by the Football Review Committee.

“From grassroots to inter-county, through our 30 plus years of partnership with the GAA alongside Cumann na mBunscol, and most recently the Camogie Association, Gaelic games are part of our DNA in Allianz.

“For that reason, we are so proud to be supporting the GAA as title sponsor of the two-day series and look forward to the excitement to come as the four Provinces go head-to-head across the two days”.

Mayo Hurling Stars Receive Awards in Croke Park

Mayo GAA and Tooreen hurling stars Shane Boland and David Kenny picked up their national 2024 Champion 15 team awards at a black tie gala awards ceremony at Croke Park on Friday evening last. The Champion 15 team is a selection of the top hurlers who starred in this year’s Christy Ring, Nickey Rackard and Lory Meagher Cup campaigns.

Uachtarán CLG Jarlath Burns said: “The longer the Ring, Rackard and Meagher Cups go on the more impressive the foresight and inspiration that sparked their inauguration. They are an integral part of the hurling calendar and a key part of the Association’s commitment to hurling.

“Through all the plans and hopes that we have for the future of hurling, let us not forget the outstanding hurlers and ambassadors for the game that are in our midst right now and I salute those who have been selected on this distinguished Champion 15 and thank them for the extraordinary dedication they make.

“This is an honour that will be celebrated by your families and clubs and is richly deserved.”

Gaelic Players Association CEO Tom Parsons said: “While our games are primarily about what we do as teams collectively, it is also important to recognise individual effort and excellence. “These 15 players, drawn from the Christy Ring, Nicky Rackard and Lory Meagher Cups, are rightly being awarded for outstanding championship seasons in 2024.

“The unique nature of this team, with players selected from three different tiers, means these players have had to probably do even more to stand out. Congratulations to you all.

“I hope that those who work so hard to keep hurling alive in the eight counties represented will take some satisfaction too, on seeing their county men rewarded with places on the Champion 15 team.”

Players from the Ring, Rackard, and Meagher were asked to nominate outstanding performers in their competitions, with an independent selection committee adjudicating on the final team based on player performances, supported by video footage and county nominations.
