Mayo Senior Football Team Announced

Mayo Senior Football Team Announced

Press Release www.mayogaa.com

Mayo senior football manager Kevin McStay and his management team have named the team to face Cavan in Round 1 of the All-Ireland Series this Sunday 18th May at 2:30pm in Hastings Insurance MacHale Park.
There is one change to the starting fifteen that played Galway in the Connacht Final.
Sam Callinan Ballina Stephenites will replace Diarmuid O’Connor.
The counties have met on 6 previous occasions in the championship, with Mayo winning 4 and Cavan 2.  Their first championship meeting was in the 1932 All-Ireland semi-final, when Mayo triumphed.  The next two meetings in the 1937 All-Ireland semi-final and the 1948 All-Ireland final saw victory go to the Breffnimen.  The three most recent meetings have been in the qualifier era, with Mayo winning all three, their 2005 meeting in Hyde Park, and the 2007 and 2024 meetings in MacHale Park.  Last year’s meeting was like this year in the first round of the All-Ireland series, with Mayo winning on a 0-20 to 1-8 scoreline.
LAST FIVE CHAMPIOSHIP GAMES
2024: Mayo 0-20 Cavan 1-8 (All-Ireland Round Robin)
2007: Mayo 1-19 Cavan 3-7 (All-Ireland Qualifiers)
2005: Mayo 0-11 Cavan 0-8 (All-Ireland Qualifiers)
1948: Cavan 4-5 Mayo 4-4 (All-Ireland Final)
1937: Cavan 2-5 Mayo 1-7 (All-Ireland Semi-Final)
In relation to appearances, Ryan O’ Donoghue will make his 70th League and Championship appearance for Mayo, having made his debut against Donegal in the Allianz League in Ballybofey on 25th January 2020.  The Belmullet sharpshooter has amassed 11-273 in his 69 appearances to date, leaving him in fourth place on the all-time Mayo scorers list behind Cillian O’ Connor, Conor Mortimer and Joe Corcoran.
Stephen Coen will captain the team on the day

Paul Faloon from Co. Down has been confirmed to officiate at this game
