Mayo Senior Football Team Announced

Mayo GAA senior football manager Kevin McStay has named his team for the FBD Connacht GAA football league quarter final against London this Sunday 7th January at 1pm at The University of Galway Connacht GAA Air Dome in Bekan. Kevin has added seven debutants to the starting fifteen for Sunday’s game. Aaron Mc Donnell and Kevin Quinn Ballinrobe, Tom O’Flaherty and Conor Hunt Aghamore, Tomás Fahey Kilmaine, Conor Reid Bohola Moy Davitts and Darren Quinn Garrymore. Mayo will play London for the first time since the preliminary round of the Connacht championship game in 2016. Rob Hennelly and Cillian O’Connor are the only players involved with Mayo this weekend who were on the match day panel in Ruislip in 2016. Tommy Conroy The Neale will be captain on the day.  Roscommon’s Dermot Lyons will be the referee for this game.
This game is broadcast live on Midwest Radio with Michael D McAndrew and Martin Carney. There will be live updates on all Mayo GAA social media channels.

Mayo GAA senior hurling joint-managers Brian Finn and Ray Larkin has made just one change to their starting fifteen team for the Connacht GAA League Cup final who will play a strong New York outfit, this Saturday 6th January at 7pm at The University of Galway Connacht GAA Air Dome.
Matthew Connor Caiseal Gaels gets his start with the Mayo hurlers at full forward with Brendan Sheridan Ballyvary Hurling missing out on this occasion. The managers have called  Ronan O’Reilly and Jack Doocey from Ballyvary Hurling into the match day 26 squad.

Mayo GAA are saddened to hear of the passing of Gerry Lyons RIP Knockbrack Ballyhaunis Co.Mayo
 
Pre deceased by his parents Bill and Kathleen
 
Deepest sympathy to his loving wife Anne, daughter Michelle, sons Morgan and James, brothers Frank, Liam, Míchéal, John-Joe, Eugene & Noel, sister Mary T, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, neighbours, friends & his GAA family.
 
Gerry was the Chairman for Ballyhaunis GAA. Gerry gave many decades of dedicated service as an outstanding player with the club’s teams of the 70s and 80s and later as a successful coach and capable officer. His son James is currently on the Mayo senior hurling team. 
Reposing at Donnellan’s Funeral Home, Clare Street, Ballyhaunis on Sunday from 3 to 5pm.
Funeral arriving to St Patrick’s Church, Ballyhaunis on Monday for Funeral Mass at 2pm with burial afterwards in the local cemetery.
Funeral Mass can be viewed live on Ballyhaunis Parish webcam or listened to on parish radio.
Family flowers only, donations if desired to Mayo Hospice c/o Donnellan Undertakers, Ballyhaunis.
House private on Monday please.

2024 GAA & Specsavers Social Initiative – Allianz League Match Day Trip

We are delighted to be rolling out the GAA & Specsavers Social Initiative again in 2024. This partnership with Specsavers Local Stores aims to encourage a connection and re-connection between local GAA Clubs and older and more vulnerable people in the community.
Feedback from clubs and counties has highlighted the popularity of a match day trip for older and more vulnerable people and that a trip organised specifically for this group generated a sense of excitement for them. Attending inter-county matches and being seated in a designated area made them feel important, remembered, and included.  Invitees said the experience of being amongst a crowd of supporters was enjoyable and entertaining, and opened the possibility of them forming or re-forming a connection with their local club.
Specsavers Local Stores are providing a €500 contribution towards a Match Day Trip for older and more vulnerable persons to GAA Allianz League match.  If your club is interested in participating in the 2024 GAA & Specsavers Social Initiative – Allianz League Match Day Trip please submit an Expression of Interest by clicking on the image below.
Expression of Interest Form Closes on 22nd December 2023 at 12 noon
Please note: The submission of an Expression of Interest does not guarantee club selection. A review committee will select clubs and pair them with local stores. Clubs will be notified of the committee’s decision no later than 17th January 2024 if they have been selected to participate. If selected to participate clubs will be provided with a 2024 GAA Specsavers Social Initiative Match Day Trips Information Booklet – which will include guidance on steps and actions to support organisation of the trip.
Selected clubs must have a Designated Coordinator that will be the point of contact for the 2024 GAA Specsavers Social Initiative. The Designated Coordinator will liaise with the County Board and a member of the Wilson Hartnell Team (Specsavers Local Stores Representatives) in the organisation of the Match Day Trip.
Important: Tickets for Allianz League Games must be organised through the usual club mechanism used for county matches. They are not available from participating Specsavers Stores; Wilson Hartnell or Croke Park for this initiative.
