1999 Mayo Intermediate Football Final
Swinford 1-10 Ballintubber 0-4
Swinford were crowned Mayo Intermediate Football champions for the third time in 12 years, when they easily overcame the challenge of Ballintubber in the final, which was played in MacHale Park.
Early points from Enda Murtagh with two and Timmy Gallagher got Swinford off to a flying start. A thirteenth minute point from Timmy Gallagher extended Swniford’s lead, but despite being on top they didn’t add to their tally before half-time, and two points from Lynden Reilly left the half-time score 0-4 to 0-2 in favour of the East Mayo side.
A good third quarter from Ballintubber and points from James Horan and Gary Dillon saw the sides level with a little over 15 minutes to go. However Swinford took over in the last quarter, and points from Eoin Gallagher, Enda Murtagh with two, Timmy Gallagher and Kevin Keane, together with a goal from Kevin Keane in the 46th minute, saw the James Sweeney Cup heading to Swinford.
On their way to the final, Swinford defeated Westport by 0-10 to 1-4, Burrishoole 0-8 to 1-4, and in the semi-final Balla 1-6 to 0-7 in a replay, following a 0-9 to 1-6 draw.

1999 Mayo Junior Football Final
Belmullet 2-11 Kilmaine 0-10
Belmullet bridged a 26 year gap when they decisively beat Kilmaine in the final of the 1999 Mayo Junior Football championship, which was played in MacHale Park.
The early exchanges were even as both sides enjoyed periods of dominance, and Belmullet led by a point after 25 minutes. Three late points from Michael Gaynard, Ciaran Lavelle and Stephen Carolan pushed the Erris men into a 0-7 to 0-3 half-time lead.
An early second-half goal from Alan Flynn pushed the Belmullet lead out. Points from Andrew Casey and Pat Kelly reduced the deficit, before Stephen Carolan directed a long free into the net, and gave his side a nine point lead, and seemed to have put the result beyond doubt. However Kilmaine now enjoyed their best spell in the game, and points from Andrew Casey with 2, David Loughlin, Ollie Walsh and Brian Maloney reduced the deficit to four, and had the South Mayo men back in contention. However Belmullet surged again, and late points from Andrew Howard, Alan Flynn and Ciaran Lally left them seven clear at the end, and holders of the Pete McDonnell Cup for the second time.
On their way to the final, Belmullet overcame Ardnaree in the North Mayo Junior Final, and Kilmovee Shamrocks in the County semi-final.
