Mayo Senior Football Team Announced

Mayo GAA senior football manager Kevin McStay has made five changes to his team for Round 3 of the Allianz National Football League against Kerry this weekend in Tralee. Ballintubber’s Michael Plunkett replaces Rory Brickenden at centre back with David McBrien moving to the full-back position. Donnacha McHugh comes in for Sam Callinan at corner back with Stephen Coen replacing Mayo captain Paddy Durcan at wing-back. Diarmuid O’Connor gets his first start in this year’s league campaign at midfield. Upfront Tommy Conroy returns and will captain the team from the full forward line. The Neale GAA star replaces Charlestown Sarsfields Paul Towey on the edge of the square.
The game this Saturday, February 17th is at 7:30pm in Austin Stack Park in Tralee. Tipperary referee Derek O’Mahoney will be the man in the middle. The game is live on RTÉ Television and on Midwest Radio with Michael D McAndrew and Lee Keegan. Mayo GAA will have live updates across all social media platform on Saturday evening.

Parking available in Fel’s Point Car Park (approx 15-20 mins walk) and Kerry’s ETB Car Park in Clash (Approx 10-15 mins walk) from the pitch.
Please respect residential and commercial parking in the area.

Mayo GAA joint-hurling managers Brian Finn and Ray Larkin have kept faith with the same fifteen hurlers that defeated Armagh last time out for their Allianz National Hurling League Round 2 encounter with Monaghan this coming weekend. Mayo captain David Kenny put in a virtuoso performance in the opening round and his ball winning ability at the heart of the Mayo defence will be crucial again this weekend. Conal Hession who made his debut last weekend for Mayo also retains his place at wing back. In total Tooreen have eight players listed to start this Sunday with four hurlers from Ballyhaunis and one player each from Castlebar Mitchel’s, Moytura and Caiseal Gaels named on the team.  Mayo had to dig deep in the closing stages to defeat Armagh in Round 1 with full forward Cormac Phillips deadly accurate from frees and centre-forward Adrian Phillips blasting to the Armagh net late on to steady the Mayo ship in the final quarter. The game this Sunday, February 11th  is at St. Mary’s Park in Castleblayney at 1:00pm. Kevin Parke of Antrim is down to officiate at the game.
Midwest Radio will have coverage from 1pm with live commentary from Michael D McAndrew and Sean O’Raghallaigh.

Mayo GAA unveil The Paddy Muldoon Room
Westport native Paddy Muldoon was a notable club and county GAA delegate for over fifty years.  Paddy was born in Aughagower just outside of Westport and while he initially plied his trade with the Islandeady GAA club winning a west Mayo Junior Football title in 1959 it didn’t take long until he returned to his roots in Westport town.  Paddy held every position in the Westport GAA club and was a highly respected coach and club manager. In the mid-sixties he became chairperson of the Westport GAA club a position he held for nine years.  Paddy was manager of the successful Westport Junior Football team that won the Mayo GAA Junior Football Championship in 1970 and his infamous pep-talks ‘I have three subs and I intend to use them all’ is still fondly remembered by all that played and coached with him.  In 1980 Paddy was elected Chairperson of the Mayo GAA County Board and during his 8-year term Mayo won two Connacht Senior Football titles, an All-Ireland U21 title and an All-Ireland Minor Football title.  Paddy also represented Mayo on Central Council for many years and was a great supporter of hurling and Scór during his tenure. He is sadly missed to this day by all associated with Westport and Mayo GAA.  Ní neart go cur le chéile

Mayo GAA joint hurling managers Brian Finn and Ray Larkin have announced their team to face Armagh in the Allainz National Hurling League Round One on Sunday the 4th February at 1pm at Hastings Insurance MacHale Park. They have made eight changes to their team that played New York in the Connacht League final. Most of the Tooreen contingents are now back in full training and the management have wasted little time in bolstering their side. Bobby Douglas starts in goals ahead of Davog Frayne, Danny Hill Ballyhaunis comes into the full-back line with Luke Connor and Conor Murray either side of him. Senior hurling captain David Kenny slots into centre back with Conal Hession and former Clare footballer Eoghan Collins making up a strong back line.
Daniel Huane will now partner John Heraty at midfield while upfront Liam Lavin and Sean Kenny come into the team. Cormac Phillips will operate on the edge of the square against Armagh with Oisin Greally, Adrian Phillips and Eoin Delaney all named in the new look attack.
Caymon Flynn from Westmeath is down to officiate at the game.

Mayo GAA Senior Football Team prepares for the visit of Dublin to Castlebar this weekend:

 

The Mayo GAA Senior Football team is set to take on Dublin this coming Saturday, February 3rd at 7.30 pm in a highly anticipated Allianz League Division 1 meeting under lights at Hastings Insurance McHale Park, Castlebar.

This upcoming encounter marks the 39th league meeting between the two counties, and the 14th hosted at Hastings Insurance MacHale Park. Apart from Kerry and Galway, no other teams have faced Mayo more frequently than Dublin in the League. Notably, three of these past meetings were League Finals, taking place in 1934, 1941, and 1978.

Cillian O’Connor’s goal against Galway in Salthill last Sunday, marked his 39th in both league and championship matches for Mayo, equalling the record set by Paddy Moclair, who achieved 39 goals between 1930 and 1940. Cillian stands as Mayo’s all-time leading scorer, amassing a total of 39 goals and 507 points since his debut in 2011.

There is one change to the team that faced Galway in the first round, with Paul Towey, who impressed on his outing to Pearse Stadium, recalled to the starting fifteen in place of Tommy Conroy. Paddy Durcan, Castlebar Mitchels will captain the team on the day.

Longford referee, Fergal Kelly, will be the man in the middle for this encounter.

The Allianz National Football League Division 1 matchup between Mayo and reigning All-Ireland champions Dublin will be broadcast live on RTÉ2 with coverage beginning at 7:15pm. Live broadcast on Midwest Radio, commentary with Michael D McAndrew and Martin Carney.

Traffic information for supporters travelling to Hastings Insurance MacHale Park

A Garda message to spectators travelling to Hastings Insurance MacHale Park this Saturday evening the 3rd of February at 7:30pm for the Allianz National Football League game between Mayo and Dublin. Major roadworks are ongoing on the Claremorris Balla road, on the Balla side of the Beaten Path. We suggest you give yourself extra time in case of delays, or use an alternative route where possible to Castlebar. Safe travelling to everyone.
As parking around Hastings Insurance MacHale Park is limited, there will be no public parking around An Sportlann car park.
Patrons are advised to arrive early and obey all the stewards and Gardaí on duty inside and outside the grounds.
All Mayo GAA supporters are asked to obey all byelaws and show consideration for local residents when parking. Parking by supporters along the N5 is not recommended for health and safety reasons. There will be ample free car-parking spaces for supporters within the environs of Castlebar itself
Turnstiles will open at 6pm on Saturday with the game set to start at 7:30pm. Supporters entering the stand can access the stadium via the An Sportlann car park while those entering the terraces can access the grounds via the turnstiles on MacHale Road. Supporters are asked to have their digital or printed tickets ready for scanning on arrival at the turnstiles.
