Mayo GAA Senior Football Team Announced

Mayo GAA Senior Football Team Announced

Press Release www.mayogaa.com

Mayo senior football manager Kevin McStay has made one change to his team that started against Galway last weekend. They face Tyrone this Sunday 16th February at 1:45pm for Round 3 of the Allianz National Football League in Hastings Insurance MacHale Park.

Eoghan McLaughlin Westport will replace Sam Callinan. Stephen Coen Hollymount Carramore will captain the team on the day.

Mayo and Tyrone meet in the league for the 33rd time, since the first meeting of the counties in the 1973/74 National League, a game that was played here in MacHale Park. Before that, Tyrone usually played the other Ulster counties in the Lagan Cup, which was the northern section of the League. As they didn’t enjoy any great success in the competition, they never crossed paths with Mayo before then.

The rivalry between the counties since 1974 has always been intense, as can be gauged from the closeness of some of the scorelines, and with 6 games drawn. Tyrone has 14 victories to Mayo’s 12.

Hastings Insurance MacHale Park has hosted the most meetings with 12, followed by Healy Park Omagh with 10, with Ballina, Coalisland and Dungannon hosting 2 meetings, and Crossmolina, Ballyhaunis and Knockmore 1 meeting. The counties 2002 semi-final meeting was held in Enniskillen. Indeed Castlebar and Omagh have become the venues at which these two counties meet in the League in modern times, the last meeting at a venue other than these was the 2002 semi-final meeting, and before that their 1995 meeting which took place in Dungannon

The last 10 league meetings between the counties ended as follows :

2013 Castlebar Tyrone 1-12 Mayo 1-11

2014 Omagh Tyrone 2-15 Mayo 0-16

2015 Castlebar Tyrone 1-11 Mayo 1-7

2017 Omagh Mayo 1-10 Tyrone 0-12

2018 Castlebar Tyrone 2-14 Mayo 0-8

2019 Omagh Mayo 2-13 Tyrone 0-10

2020 Castlebar Tyrone 3-14 Mayo 1-19

2022 Omagh Tyrone 0-11 Mayo 0-9

2023 Castlebar Mayo 4-10 Tyrone 0-12

2024 Omagh Tyrone 1-15 Mayo 1-11

Derry referee Barry Cassidy will be the man in the middle for this encounter.

The game will be live on Midwest Radio with Michael D McAndrew and David Clarke on commentary.

This game is also live on TG4 with broadcast starting at 1:30pm this Sunday.

Mayo GAA will have live updates across all social media channels.

Gradaim an Uachtaráin 2025 Recipients Announced

Gradaim an Uachtaráin 2025 Recipients Announced

The GAA has announced the recipients for Gradaim an Uachtaráin 2025. These prestigious annual awards, organised with the support of AIB and broadcast by TG4, are made by GAA President Jarlath Burns to acknowledge outstanding commitment and long service across the club and county network.

The awards are a cross-section of people who have shared the common theme of providing extraordinary service and commitment to the development of Gaelic games.

There are provincial, educational, and Irish language awards, as well as awards recognising contributions made to Ladies football, Camogie, World GAA, and Handball. The Dermot Earley Family Award recipients are The McGrath Family from Sarsfields GAA Club, Galway.

Uachtarán CLG Jarlath Burns said: “It is often said that while the GAA is about Games, it is, in truth, always about people. These awards present us with an opportunity to shine a light on a small group of inspirational people who in their own right are ambassadors for the thousands of volunteers who power the GAA.

“I am delighted that for my first Gradaim an Uachtaráin we have assembled a diverse list of people who each have made a lasting contribution to ensuring that the promotion of Gaelic games go from strength to strength. I congratulate all of our worthy recipients and wish to acknowledge the support of TG4 and AIB for this scheme.”

The GAA President’s Awards (Gradaim an Uachtaráin 2024) will be broadcast this Friday night live on TG4 at 7.30pm

Congratulations to Joe Reapy Davitts GAA Club

JOE REAPY, CONNACHT

Joe’s lifelong dedication to Davitt’s GAA is a testament to his unwavering commitment to the club’s success and legacy. From his early days as a player, winning County Under 21 A titles in 1984 and 1985 (the latter as captain), to his years of service as a manager, selector, and club PRO, Joe has left an indelible mark on the Davitt’s community.

As the club PRO, Joe’s efforts to document and promote Davitt’s GAA have been extraordinary. His comprehensive match reports and encyclopedic knowledge of games, events, and club history make him an invaluable resource. Whether it is adult or underage teams in GAA or LGFA, Joe’s meticulous record-keeping and storytelling have strengthened the club’s sense of identity and pride.

Joe’s organisational talents truly shone in 2024 during Davitt’s GAA’s 50th-anniversary celebrations. He played a pivotal role in orchestrating a weekend of events that celebrated the club’s rich history and vibrant community spirit. One of his standout contributions was the creation of a historical gallery in the clubhouse. This initiative not only enhanced the clubhouse but also served as a permanent tribute to the individuals and moments that shaped Davitt’s GAA.

Another monumental task Joe undertook was the compilation of the club’s history in a commemorative book. True to his meticulous nature, Joe dedicated 18 months to this project, ensuring it was a masterpiece worthy of the club’s golden jubilee. His dedication involved researching hundreds of articles, stories, photos, and match reports, leaving no stone unturned in his quest for accuracy. The result was a book that not only celebrated Davitt’s milestones – but also preserved its heritage for generations to come.

Mayo GAA Football manager Kevin McStay and his backroom team has named their team for Round 2 of the Allianz National Football League Division 1 game against Galway this Sunday 2nd February at 2:30pm in Hastings Insurance MacHale Park.

Mayo and Galway are not only neighbours, they also share a long rivalry in both League and Championship, having met on 146 occasions in both since their first meeting in 1902 in the Connacht Final.

There have been 51 League meetings between the counties, with only Kerry having clashed more often with Mayo. 25 of these games have been played at Galway venues, with Mayo enjoying home advantage on 23 occasions, with the 2001 and 2023 Finals, and the 2007 Semi-Final being played in Croke Park. Tuam (Parkmore & Tuam Stadium) and Castlebar have been by far the most popular venue for meetings, with 19 and 17 games respectively being played at these venues. 5 games have been played in Galway, 3 in Ballina, 2 in Ballinrobe, with 1 game played in Ballinasloe and Charlestown.

The last ten League meetings of the counties have finished as follows:

2007 Mayo 2-10 Galway 1-12 Croke Park

2008 Galway 2-9 Mayo 1-11 Castlebar

2009 Mayo 1-11 Galway 0-13 Tuam

2010 Mayo 2-14 Galway 1-10 Castlebar

2011 Mayo 2-14 Galway 0-12 Tuam

2023 Mayo 0-14 Galway 0-10 Croke Park (Final)

2024 Mayo 2-12 Galway 0-10 Pearse Stadium Galway
